Brenda Duhon for PNGISD School Board, Place 6

I am Brenda (Goates) Duhon, and I have been a proud PNGISD teacher and/or administrator for 30 of the 41 years I spent in education. I am running for PNGISD School Board Trustee, Place 6, and I am asking for your vote on November 7.

About Dr. Brenda Duhon

I retired from PNGISD in 2021 as the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction/Technology; a position I held for 10 years. After retirement, I was fortunate to do some traveling and am  ready to give back to the district and communities that gave so much to me.

I grew up in Groves and graduated from PNGHS in 1976. I graduated from Lamar University with a BBA in Office Administration (1979), Master of Education in Supervision (1985), and my Ed.D. in Educational Leadership in 2010.

I have two adult children who graduated from PNG (2001 and 2006) with 5 grandchildren of which four of my grandsons currently attend PNG schools. My daughter teaches at PNGISD. My husband, Robert, is a retired pharmacist and has two adult children with four grandchildren.  We currently live in Port Neches.

Why am I Running for the PNGISD School Board?

I love everything that PNGISD represents and am proud to have played a role in its success over the years. I am confident that my educational experience as a teacher and administrator is invaluable to this position and qualifies me to continue to make a positive impact on PNGISD students, staff, School Board, and the communities of Port Neches and Groves.

I bring a unique set of knowledge and skills to the PNGISD school board position since I have been a PNGISD student, PNGISD parent, PNGISD teacher, PNGISD administrator, and now a PNGISD grandparent…notice the emphasis on PNGISD!  I emphasize PNGISD because I understand the uniqueness that is PNGISD from many perspectives along with the “Honor, Pride, and Tradition” that it exemplifies at all levels of participation.

We have faced many challenges in education over the years, but our dedicated staff, administrative team, and school board have worked hard to overcome these challenges.  With the complicated world in which we live today, these challenges will likely be magnified.  I am dedicated to ensuring that every student at PNGISD has opportunities for success and am committed to putting students and staff first. Priorities

Financial Oversight

Financial Oversight

Financial Oversight

The recent legislative session did not provide needed financial relief to school districts so we are operating on the previous state funding formula. In addition to this hardship, rising inflation has us all living on less than we did two years ago…including the school district. We must be fiscally responsible and ensure our money is being spent wisely and cautiously.

Academic Excellence

Financial Oversight

Financial Oversight

PNGISD has always been committed to ensuring that students receive a high-quality education that prepares them for higher education, the workforce, or the military. I value both academic and career/technology education and will continue to promote these opportunities for our students.

School Safety

School Safety

School Safety

Keeping our students safe is a top priority. With completion of the new elementary schools, we are now in the best position to protect our students. Safety policies and procedures should be continually evaluated and updated to offer the greatest level of safety for our students and staff.
